Decluttering: the process of getting rid of the stuff you don’t need, the stuff that makes a room look unorganized and messy, the stuff that makes a room feel crowded and disgusting. Here is a picture of my daughter’s room back in her teenage years. Unfortunately if I walked into her room today, it would probably look the same.
This is the perfect example of a hoarder, unorganized person and guess what, I live with 3 of them, so I wont’ judge your home. I love them despite their messy ways. My girl’s rooms are worse than anything you could imagine so when I start working on what you consider “your messy areas”, you have nothing to fear because I have seen it all. Plus, my job isn’t to judge how you live, but to help make your home look and feel wonderful.
So how do we declutter a room? Just like you would imagine, one small area at a time. It is really much easier organizing and getting rid of stuff when you have someone beside you asking the important questions: How much do you use this? Would you even notice if it was gone? Does it have sentimental value? Can you live without it?
I always declutter when staging a home but many jobs I have done in the past are just decluttering. No staging, just organizing and decluttering for the sake of making your home feel peaceful.
